| I've been working at a mental hospital for a little over two years now. I always thought I would have enough stuff to talk about in any given day of work to keep this blog full of funny details, but at first I thought that talking about that kind of thing on here would be...offensive. Now I don't care. Some of this stuff is too funny to no share.
So, we have this one patient who is quite the runner. But he doesn't run with the intention of not coming back. See, by law here in the State of Florida, there is no smoking on state owned grounds. I work at a state owned facility, therefore, the patients are not allowed to smoke.
This guy uses fire exits on a regular basis to run across the street to the convenience store, grab a cigarette, smoke, and then comes back. He's usually only gone 5 or 10 minutes.
Anyways, he runs out again tonight around 10 PM and I've about had it, because every time he comes back we have to search him for contraband. I follow him out and catch up to him as he's crossing the road. I yell to him "GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!"
What does he do? He turns to me and says "Hold on man, let me get my cigarette! It'll just be a minute!"
Seriously.

| So I've been trying to "go green" lately. No, I don't mean corporate bullcrap green, where you replace everything with expensive Energy Star products so that you feel better about yourself by being trendy while stuffing some companies pockets. I'm talking actually using less resources. Ie: ride a bike instead of driving when possible. I don't do it to prevent global warming, because global warming is also bullcrap. I do it because it is the right thing to do.
Anyways, I recently strung up a clothes line (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clothesline, in case you don't know) in my backyard so that I can hang my clothes out and not use the dryer so much.
The other day, I had three loads on the line, with another load in the wash. By the time this fourth load finished, the first load hung up should have been dry. It was a lovely day and I was quite proud of evrything I was getting done around the house on top of laundry.
For those of you familiar with Florida, you know storms can roll in very, very fast.
I went to Winn-Dixie, which is just down the road, to pick up some dog food (50 lb bags do not carry well on bikes) and a few other things. I wasn't gone long, maybe ten minutes. As I'm checking out, I hear thunder. As I approach my car, it begins raining. As I'm driving home (again, less than five minutes away) it becomes a heavy downpour. By the time I get home, the clothes are pretty much soaked.
Thanks, Mother Nature. Now, not only do I have to use the dryer, but the clothes are wetter than they would have been had I just put them straight in from the washer, and therefore will require more energy use from the dryer.
Oh, Mother Nature, you do yourself no favors.
